WHO WE ARE

Our team consists of conservationists from Ukraine, Germany, and the United Kingdom with many years of experience in biodiversity conservation, nature protection, the functioning of protected areas, and the development of nature conservation. With the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, we united to provide rapid and effective support to protected areas and their staff. On 12 February 2024, we established a charitable organisation – the Nature Fund of Ukraine.

VISION OF THE FUND:

A future in which nature is an integral part of Ukraine’s development, where thriving biodiversity plays a key role in ensuring people’s well-being and economic growth — including climate change mitigation and adaptation — and remains accessible to future generations.

VALUES OF THE FUND:

Teamwork: We collaborate closely with one another and our partners, offering support and inspiration.

Purpose: Everything we do is aimed at fulfilling our mission and achieving meaningful results.

Integrity: We adhere to the principles of honest and transparent partnership, and we do not collaborate with those who harm nature.

Forward Looking: We take a strategic, long-term perspective and work to turn our vision for the future into reality.

Respect for Nature: Nature conservation is our highest priority in all that we do.

MISSION OF THE FUND:

To provide assistance to National Nature Parks and other PAs for the preservation of biodiversity, restoration of the value of protected areas affected by war, creation of social and economic benefits for local communities, provision of quality tourist services based on partnership with governments, international organizations, protected areas administrations, and local communities, efficient and transparent use of finances, and implementation of best global practices in managing protected areas.

WHAT IS THE FUND DOING NOW?

Providing critically important operational support to protected areas of Ukraine

Improving the management system of protected areas of Ukraine

Developing the potential and leadership in the field of protected areas management through education and development

Conservation and restoration of natural areas that do not have official protected areas status but are valuable for preservation and restoration of biodiversity in existing protected areas

Development of sustainable financial mechanisms to support the above objectives, such as carbon and natural credits

Implementation of restoration, repair, and construction of infrastructure for protected areas, and/or allocation of funds for such purposes

The Fund aims to foster and strengthen horizontal connections between protected area institutions, and to build a community of nature conservation professionals through capacity development and the exchange of experience and knowledge.
